International High-Rise Sustainability Award for Frankfurt’s WestendDuo
The Sustainability Award is a special category of the International High-Rise Award presented biennially by the City of Frankfurt, the German Architecture Museum and DekaBank, July 2008.
The Award recognises the sustainable elements of the two 26-floor landmark high-rise towers in Frankfurt’s central business district, and the innovative approach used in the building’s design, which was praised as the high-rise concept of the future. Geothermic energy is used to provide low-energy heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. The buildings are user-friendly, with a U-Bahn station situated only 200 metres away as well as amenities such as an Italian restaurant, a bar and a small park. The 32,700m² prime property was designed and developed by KSP Engel Architects and Zimmerman/Hochtief Projektentwicklung and comprises office, retail, storage and residential space as well as an underground car park. WestendDuo was acquired on behalf of the ING Insurance portfolio at the end of 2006.
